The Sacraments of Commitment
Introduction | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The seven sacraments are the channels of Grace by which we find sanctification and Salvation. They are encounters with God who continues to leave His Presence in the Church through his anointed.
Holy Orders | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holy Orders is a Sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ. This sacrament is based upon a life-time of commited service. There is a general call to all Catholic members to lead a life of devotion and servitude, but there is a special, ORDAINED ministry: pastoral leadership in the Church. The Sacrament of Holy Orders comissions bishops, priests, and deacons to follow in the footsteps of the Apostles and to share in their same threefold leadership responsibility to: Shepherd the followers of Jesus Lead them in the worship and service, and Teach them in the way of salvation
Matrimony | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Matrimony is a true and proper Sacrament instituted by God. | Of all the loves a person can enjoy, only one was raised to the level of a sacrament: Married love. The purpose of marriage is "two fold". It is unitive and procreative. The Sacrament of Matrimony should only be entered under extensive courtship, serious reflection, honest discussion, and mutual prayer. The Sacrament of Matrimony bestows sanctifying grace on the contracting parties.
